Hey everyone!

I'm just over 3 weeks past my surgery. I am doing fabulous! I'm quite an animated character. I just love my foster parents and get so excited when they come home! I like to mouth a lot. I still need to be careful because I fell today and landed on my ouie. I cried for a little while, but then was okay. I'm running around the yard like crazy and love to lay in the sun chewing on bones. I went to the vet today to get some vaccinations and the vet said I was doing great. I didn't want to leave mom's side while we were there though...I thought she was going to leave me there. I layed in her lap when I got my toenails trimmed. I was super excited when I got to go with her when we were done. Everyone I've met says that I have a heart of gold. My foster parents say that I am the biggest couch potato that they've ever met! I needs lots of beauty sleep to keep up these good looks.

Hey everyone! I am now 2 weeks post-op today! Yeah! I am doing fantastic. My incisions look fabulous and I am healing great. I am now getting to go out with the other dogs and sniff the yard. I am running and jumping and playing. I am so mellow and listen well. I try to eat dirt and sticks in the yard, but when I hear "No, no Leo" I stop. I even have great recall. I really am a good boy and will make someone very lucky. My foster parents think that I should be ready to be adopted in a week or two. How great is that! They finally gave up on trying to crate me (haha) and I am perfectly content free-roaming when they're gone. My favorite past-time is lying on the couch and cuddling! Keep checking up on me!

Leo here again...I'm getting pretty annoyed with this "keeping quiet during recovery" thing. I keep wanting to play with the other dogs, but I'm not allowed. I just don't get it. My foster parents keep trying to tell me that "I'm healing" and "Not yet" but I don't know what they're talking about. Is there something wrong with me? I don't think there is. I feel like a million bucks and just want to be a dog!

I'm really not liking being crated. My foster dad was messing around with my crate the other day and when he put me in it yesterday, I found that I couldn't open it! I showed him though! Hehe. I chewed up my blanket in there and gave him quite a surprise. That's what he gets for not taking me with him! I prefer to lounge on the couch all day and enjoy the company of the other dogs. I really hope they don't try crating me again.

Talk to you soon!

I am one week post-surgery today. So far, I'm healing well and really learning to move around. My favorite place to lounge is on the couch. I can even jump on a bed because I'm so motivated to be near you! My foster dad had to leave today and put me in my crate. I just let myself out of it though. I really am an escape artist!

The weather is getting nicer and I can't wait until I can play! I'm counting down the days until I can run and play.....

Hi, I'm Leopold. I am a neutered 3 year old blue male. My friends call me "Leo" for short. My story is a sad one...I'm hoping you can give it a happy ending.

I was found as a stray by Animal Control after having an accident. The vets think I was hit by a car. I was one day away from being euthanized by the animal control, when the great folks at Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue came to save me. Actually, lots of great people came together to help me out. The Barriers Against Repeated Cruelty (BARC) of Chicago and Realtors to the Rescue (RTTR) helped with my transport and helped arrange for my vet care at the Animal Emergency and Treatment Center (AETC) in Chicago. Even with all these great people helping me, I still had severe damage done to my back left leg and it was amputated.

While recovering at AETC, I let myself out of my quiet room and spent my days hanging out with the vets. They were all amazed at how well behaved I was and couldn't believe how well I am recovering. I think they were amused by my escape tactics, too!

I'm now recovering with my foster parents in Wisconsin. I'm on some antibiotics and pain medications and recovering fabulously. I can get around just fine and manage good with my three legs. I am such a sweet boy and love everyone. I really enjoy being in my foster parents company and like to follow them around the house. I get along with the other dogs here and can't wait to go outside to play with them. I watch them play from the patio door and wag my tail. I am learning to be crated, but really prefer free-roaming. When I heal a little more, my foster parents say I can stay out all the time. I know how to sit, lay down, stay, and even shake. I walk great on a leash also.

I am such a great dog and will make a great pet for someone.

Keep checking my blog for progress on me and updates!

Loves and kisses,

Leopold

Special thanks to Matt Tompkins, CEO of the AETC, all the great veterinarians, and Tina Wallace and Chasity of BARC and RTTR for arranging for my transport and care. Without these great organizations, I probably wouldn't be in such great shape already!
