Hi, I'm Leopold. I am a neutered 3 year old blue male. My friends call me "Leo" for short. My story is a sad one...I'm hoping you can give it a happy ending.

I was found as a stray by Animal Control after having an accident. The vets think I was hit by a car. I was one day away from being euthanized by the animal control, when the great folks at Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue came to save me. Actually, lots of great people came together to help me out. The Barriers Against Repeated Cruelty (BARC) of Chicago and Realtors to the Rescue (RTTR) helped with my transport and helped arrange for my vet care at the Animal Emergency and Treatment Center (AETC) in Chicago. Even with all these great people helping me, I still had severe damage done to my back left leg and it was amputated.

While recovering at AETC, I let myself out of my quiet room and spent my days hanging out with the vets. They were all amazed at how well behaved I was and couldn't believe how well I am recovering. I think they were amused by my escape tactics, too!

I'm now recovering with my foster parents in Wisconsin. I'm on some antibiotics and pain medications and recovering fabulously. I can get around just fine and manage good with my three legs. I am such a sweet boy and love everyone. I really enjoy being in my foster parents company and like to follow them around the house. I get along with the other dogs here and can't wait to go outside to play with them. I watch them play from the patio door and wag my tail. I am learning to be crated, but really prefer free-roaming. When I heal a little more, my foster parents say I can stay out all the time. I know how to sit, lay down, stay, and even shake. I walk great on a leash also.

I am such a great dog and will make a great pet for someone.

Keep checking my blog for progress on me and updates!

Loves and kisses,

Leopold

Special thanks to Matt Tompkins, CEO of the AETC, all the great veterinarians, and Tina Wallace and Chasity of BARC and RTTR for arranging for my transport and care. Without these great organizations, I probably wouldn't be in such great shape already!
